- Discover the wonderful blend of Norwegian vernacular motifs with the construction themes are referred to as “byggeskikk.” This concept drew its inspiration from generational construction techniques that go back centuries. Most structures in Norway were created with natural materials such as logs, or other resources available in the wilderness. Due to this, architectural designs such as open-hearth fireplaces and stone chimneys became prevalent in this aesthetic and can be seen throughout Danebu Kongsgaard.
- Learn more about the fascinating architectural history of Danebu Kongsgaard. The charming and quaint boutique hotel was designed by Esben Poulsson and when he began creating the Danebu Kongsgaard layout, he chose to model the structure after historic Norwegian motifs. He was able to perfectly mold the hotel with its rustic surrounding alpine environment into the mountains, making it the peaceful retreat it is today.

- Explore the Valdres Folk Museum and learn more about Norwegian culture. This museum is home to many unique collections and archives that are native to the land. The exhibitions display items from the last 150 years and is a wonderful way to learn more about Norwegian culture. The museum currently has exhibits that feature folk costume and collections, paying tribute to the pioneers in Norwegian folk costume design.
- Spend the day fishing at Danebu Kongsgaard. With several lakes located near the hotel, there are many fishing opportunities to catch trout, whitefish, and perch. Boat rentals are available by Aurdal Fjellpark to hotel guests and the staff is happy to share local knowledge on the best spots to fish.
- Guests can enjoy golfing at the Valdres Golf Course, an 18-hole golf course with 9 greens and stunning scenery. The Valdres Golf Course holds a variety of tournaments and activities throughout the year making it a popular spot for tourists or locals who love the sport. The Kongsgaard Restaurant offers a 3-course meal daily to guests with a changing menu depending on ingredients and what is in season. The Peisestuen Food & Wine Bar is a great spot to enjoy a casual lunch or stop by for a coffee. In addition, the hotel offers “theme evenings” where guests can participate and have a food tasting. - Enjoy a culinary heritage experience at Danebu Kongsgaard. When the hotel opened in 1950, the first meal was oxtail soup, trout, and reindeer. This unique meal set the course and is still the inspiration for what is served today. The soup along with the trout and reindeer is still served today and guests can be transported to a different time with the historic dishes.
- Indulge in the region's four national food treasures: Reindeer, Kurv, Rakfish, and Stølssmø. Kurv is a cured sausage meat that is normally cooked alongside traditional Norwegian dishes. Rakfish is fermented trout, an abundant amount of this fish is found in the lakes of Aurdal. Lastly, Stølssmø is butter that is made by hand in the summer by farms in the mountains. The butter is made in the traditional way, and visitors love to taste the pure creaminess of it. These delicacies can be found throughout the town for guests wanting to try something new.
