On the island of Crete, above Chania’s Old Venetian Harbor, sits the tranquil accommodations of Domus Blanc. The 19th-century residence was once the home of French Consul Paul Blanc and his wife, Erasmia Ligouni. Blanc built the Neoclassical structure in the distinguished neighborhood of Halepa, where residents like Eleftherios Venizelos, the future Prime Minister of Greece, became his neighbor. Blanc departed in 1901, but the striking home retained his name. Domus Blanc’s later resident, Florentine Kaloutsi, used the space as an artisan workshop to promote the Minoan tradition of weaving. Today, the historic Domus Blanc retains the spirit of industry and hospitality that its original residents brought to the manor. With just eight guestrooms and four suites, Domus Blanc provides a sense of place for travelers seeking relaxation in an authentic Grecian setting.
