Hacienda La Magdalena

"Hacienda La Magdalena dates back to the late 17th century. Among its first inhabitants was Don Jose Caserta, who acquired the location in 1848. He sold it to Don Manuel Jesus de Olazagarre in 1856, who in turn gave it to a man named “Escandon.” Escandon subsequently established a factory at the site that manufactured yarns and fabrics called “La Escoba.” Today, the current owner is Dr. Roberto Guillermo Chávez Ruíz Velazco, a descendant who has kept the memories of his ancestors alive by maintaining the traditions of their heritage. Hacienda La Magdalena continues to be one of the area’s most-recognizable landmarks. Situated in the historic district of Zapopan, the hacienda is within nine miles of Hacienda Santa Lucia, the Basilica of Zapopan, and the Tromp Magico Museum. Additional cultural institutions that are located nearby are the Museum Huichol Wixarica de Zapopan and the Centro de Arte y Cultura de Zapopan.
