Half Moon

Half Moon PO, Montego Bay, Jamaica, JMCJS06 Original Property Opened in 1954 Historic Hotels Worldwide member since 2023

Created by a collection of some of the time’s most influential businesspeople, including Harvey Firestone Jr. of the Firestone Tire and Rubber Company and Richard Reynolds of the Reynolds Metal Company, Half Moon has been a fixture of Jamaica’s picturesque North Coast since 1954. Upon its opening, the Montego Bay resort earned a reputation for offering an elegant escape with gracious hospitality, resulting in a steady stream of illustrious guests, including movie stars, European royalty, and U.S. Presidents. Equally as notable as the guestlist is the land on which Half Moon rests. Nestled along a crescent-shaped bay, the area was once home to the loading dock for Rose Hall, a former sugarcane plantation that still boasts its palatial Jamaican Georgian mansion. Today, it stands as a historic house museum and one of Montego Bay’s most visited landmarks.

Although there are plenty of must-see sights outside Half Moon, like the nearby Rose Hall plantation house, guests will also find no shortage of experiences at the resort. Along with Fern Tree, a Salamander Spa, and an 18-hole, par-72 championship golf course, travelers can also enjoy such activities as water sports, tennis, pickleball, horseback riding with the Half Moon Equestrian Centre, and even sea turtle conservation efforts. A buffet of restaurant options is also on hand to satisfy guests’ every craving, from cafés and bars to beach BBQs and fine dining. For guests’ convenience, Half Moon offers a variety of vacation plans, including all-inclusive packages.
