Hayes Mansion

    Hayes Mansion
 in San Jose

Overview

In 1903, California architect George Page was commissioned by Mary Hayes Chynoweth, to build a home for the Hayes Family. Intended to provide a triple residence for the Chynoweths and growing families of Mary's two sons, Everis Hayes and Jay Orly Hayes, the sprawling mansion incorporated every modern amenity available, including the latest fire safety features of the era. The Hayes Family sold the property during the 1950s, after which the building remained vacant for some time. Purchased by the City of San Jose during the 1990s, the property was renovated and expanded to its present state.

Today, Hayes Mansion offers 214 luxurious guestrooms and suites in a stunning historic locale. Whether guests choose the cozy standard guestrooms or the spacious suites, they are sure to enjoy their stay. High quality amenities are also available, such as bathrobes, a coffee maker, a hair dryer, a flat screen television, and more. Guests can indulge in two dining options, both serving a variety of delicious fare.

Situated in San Jose, guests who choose to stay at the Hayes Mansion will find that they are in a prime location to explore the area. From redwood trees to museums to breweries, guests are sure to find something they enjoy.

Hayes Mansion, a member of Historic Hotels of America since 2019, dates back to 1905.

Fun FactThe original 41,000-square-foot villa is regarded as one of the best examples of late 19th-century Mediterranean Revival architecture in the Santa Clara Valley. The mansion features stucco-coated double brick walls, exotic woods, imported marble, and ornate stained glass windows. Constructed in the shape of a Maltese Cross, its long center section contains an 18-foot wide solarium connecting the north and south wings, while a loggia connects the east and west wings.
