  • Grand and average at the same time

by XNAChris on 2019-01-20 02:01 am

The Hilton is in a great location on S Michigan Ave and is located in a historic building. What a grand entrance! But then it does downhill from there. As you enter the reception desks are tucked away down the hallway to the right, and since the hotel is so big, there may be long lines. So be prepared to wait. I will say that there are plenty of elevators to deal with the crowds.
The walk to your room may also be quite the hike. Once we got there, we found our room to be of good size and nicely updated. Typical Hilton fare (i.e., quite good).
So I think this is a good choice if you come for sightseeing or if you attend a conference that happens to be hosted here. If you're here for shopping, you're probably better off staying a bit further north.

Room's are clean and neat great value. Had 3 bad experience with the hotel staff. I felt like i was paying for a super 8 and inexperienced unprofessional college kids to tell me i wasn't good enough to stay here.

  • Great hotel in the heart of downtown

by NanaGlobetrotter on 2019-01-15 01:10 pm

We stayed at this centrally located hotel when we were in town for a wedding. The hotel was lovely...staff could have been a little nicer, but I guess that's just part of being in Chicago. We were able to enjoy a lot of restaurants and more importantly, amazing shopping!

  • Fantastic!

by davehultman on 2019-01-15 10:00 am

My girlfriend had never been to Chicago so I was looking for a classy hotel that would impress her. As soon as we entered the lobby we were both impressed, they don't build them like this anymore. The room and views were amazing, she can't wait to come back!

  • High End Experience for a Low Cost Room in Chicago

by ThePlaidTraveler on 2019-01-15 09:02 am

We recently stayed at this hotel for a night out in the city. We selected it for it's location - close to Soldier Field and Grant Park, and easy to access. Most hotels in Chicago are pretty pricey. My boyfriend booked the room, so I had no idea how much it cost initially. When we walked in we were blown away by the sheer size of the hotel. It's massive, and even in a city like Chicago, we didn't feel crowded even with the number of people in the hotel. It was the Chicago Bears playoff weekend so the hotel was pretty packed, but it gave the feeling of "busy" but not "packed" The hotel had an elevator area with about 12 elevators, that should give you an idea of how huge it is!

It has some old fashioned architecture elements which give it some elegance and character, but some parts of the hotel were more modern. So don't think old fashioned means "old" It doesn't. The hotel was clean, inviting, and I felt very at home here.

A few good things about this hotel:

Getting to it is easy...and parking was about the easiest thing. They have an off street entrance, so that you can pull into a horseshoe shaped entrance that's quite large by Chicago city standards and their parking garage is right in this entrance as well. Tons of parking and ours was actually included in our hotel rate (saving us the $60.00 a night parking fee they otherwise charge) and I felt very safe since the garage was part of the hotel. They have valet parking if you don't feel safe parking yourself, but it will cost you so ask first.

The second thing I loved was the location. We were going to Buddy Guy Legends on Saturday and my boyfriend was going to Soldier Field Sunday. We were right across the street from Buddy Guys and he was a quick car ride from Soldier Field on Sunday. In fact, we had a lakefront view room (photo attached) and you could see as far left as Navy Pier and as far right as Solider Field. GREAT View! the hotel also has windows that open, which is also very rate for a city hotel on a high floor.

The forth thing - they had some great history in this hotel. Several movies were filmed here, and they had a display showing them all, along with a TV showing clips from the movies that were shot in the hotel. Very cool! They also had some historical items on display at one end of the hotel showing the history of it - like the menu from an old presidential dinner. Very cool stuff.

Another plus - they have a lot of amenities like a great bar/lounge, a couple great restaurants, a coffee shop/cafe that also sells snack, etc. This is very convenient.

The last and most important thing - EVERYONE at the hotel we interacted with, treated us like their best customer. From the doorman/valet outside who told us where to park and "Go Bears" , to the front desk staff who was so nice, to the restaurant crews who served us. Everyone was just SO nice, polite, helpful and FRIENDLY!

My boyfriend told me the price of the room after we got there. I was shocked. Honestly, if he has told me the price before we left, I would have been skeptical because the price did not watch the level of service we received. We stayed at the Four Seasons years ago and honestly, this hotel treated us far better and I will definitely be staying here again in the future when we go for a night in the city.

Note: If you stay here in the summer, Navy Pier often has fireworks. With the lakefront facing rooms - you would be able to see them from your room so keep that in mind!
