The Hotel Diplomat is a unique Stockholm boutique hotel located on the waterfront of the Stockholm Harbour, nestled in the heart of the city's cultural, financial and shopping district, with the Djurgården right around the corner. Hotel Diplomat, a member of Historic Hotels Worldwide since 2020, offers guests the chance to stay in a luxuriously appointed Art Deco-style establishment that was built in 1911 and is an architecturally significant building in its own right. - Discover the amazing Art Nouveau architecture of the Hotel Diplomat. Originally built as a residential palace in 1911, the structure debuted with two ornate wings centered around a beautiful courtyard. The building only became a boutique hotel when the Malmström family acquired the site some five decades later.
- Admire the historic accommodations of this fantastic historic hotel. In 1962, the Romanian Embassy relocated its premises inside 15 of the Hotel Diplomat’s luxurious guestrooms. The Strandvägen is a boulevard that runs right next to the Hotel Diplomat, which was developed at the behest of King Oscar II in the late 19th century. - Gaze upon the majestic waters of the Nybroviken just beyond the Hotel Diplomat’s front door. A small bay in the middle of Stockholm, the Nybroviken’s name is derived from a historical bridge called the “Nybro” that once crossed the water to reach the Nybrogatan. It is a frequent departure point for ferries transporting people bound for the Djurgården and other places located throughout the Stockholm Archipelago.

Originally constructed toward the end of the 17th century, The Royal Palace today functions as the workplace for the reigning monarch of the nation. - See the amazing displays that reside within the Historiska Museet (Swedish History Museum). One of the largest museums in all of Stockholm, it contains artifacts related to Norse mythology, medieval art, and the Viking world. Some of its most interesting pieces address the history surrounding the famous Battle of Gotland from 1361.
- Travel to the Skansen, an open-air museum that showcases some 150 different historical buildings from the 18th and 19th centuries. Many costumed interpreters also reenact traditional activities of the era, as well. The Skansen is also home to a thriving zoological park, which features such local animals like wolverines, otters, and the Scandinavian bear.
- Visit the Vasa Museum, which is dedicated to the incredible Vasa battleship. The vessel left on its maiden voyage in 1628, only to capsize in the harbor just 30 minutes after its launch. Today, the remains of the ship have been meticulously preserved and are on display inside this brilliant museum.

- Experience a moving operatic play at Dramaten, (The Royal Dramatic Theatre). Founded in 1788, the Dramaten hosts around 1,000 shows every year on each one of its eight exciting stages. The building itself is incredibly historic, having been designed by architect Fredrik Lilljekvist in 1908. It displays some of the best Art Nouveau architecture in Stockholm.
- Tour the artwork on display at the Moderna Museet. This stunning museum features one of the largest collections of contemporary artwork form the 20th century, including works by such renowned artists like Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dalí, and Henri Matisse.
- View the wonderful exhibits at the renowned Fotografiska. The Fotografiska is a museum wholly committed to showcasing the best in contemporary photography, with four large exhibits present every year. Topics range from such areas like landscapes to portraits.
- Attend a thrilling theatrical show at Kungliga Operan (The Royal Opera). Located within a historic building dating back to the 19th century, the Kungliga Operan itself has been entertaining patrons since the reign of King Gustav III. The opera today is one of Stockholm’s most premier attractions, serving as Sweden’s official stage for opera and ballet performances.
- Stroll through the lush vegetation of the Kungliga Djurgården, otherwise known as “The Royal National City Park.” This verdant public park is home to a number of outstanding cultural attractions, including the Rosendals Trädgård. The Rosendals Trädgård features many gorgeous varieties of plant life scattered among a rose garden, orchard, vineyard, and several flower beds.

- Taste Swedish meatballs, one of the most iconic meals in all of Sweden. Hotel Diplomat’s Restaurant and Bar offers its own brilliant take on the classic dish, serving the delicacy alongside potato purée, lingonberries, and a wonderful cream sauce.

- Enjoy some Kanelbulle when out exploring Stockholm. Regarded as one of Sweden’s iconic treats, Kanelbulle is essentially a delicious pastry made from lightly sweetened bread known as “vetebröd.” While cinnamon is the most common type of Kanelbulle, bakers also flavor the roll with saffron and vanilla.
- Try another beloved local dish known as “Toast Skagen.” This outstanding meal consists of fresh shrimps and a mixture of mayonnaise, dill, and lemon. Toast Skagen is also prepared upon crispy bread, topped with an elegant layer of fish roe.
- Feast upon a delicious casserole called “Jansson’s Temptation.” Originally a Christmas dish, Jansson’s Temptation is made with a combination of creamy potatoes and anchovies. Its specifically named after Pelle Janzon, an opera singer form the early 20th century who loved to sample all kinds of different foods.
