Founded in the 17th century, La Misión de Fray Diego is a charming mansion that has been recently restored into a charming boutique hotel. Over 400 years ago, La Misión de Fray Diego was part of the Monjas Church (Nuestra Señora de la Consolación), the second-oldest church in Mérida. La Misión de Fray Diego takes its name from the first Bishop of Yucatán, Diego de Landa, who lived in town during the initial spread of Catholicism among the Mayans. Now a hotel, La Misión de Fray Diego is located in the heart of downtown Mérida. This terrific holiday destination is surrounded by a large amount of fine-dining establishments, museums, and upscale shopping districts. The city also features an extensive variety of ancient Mayan architectural landmarks, including the marvelous ruins of Uxmal.
