History

The three southern forest estates that later formed Losby Gods, Losby, Vestmork, and Østmork, had small sawmills during the booming timber industry; the earliest smallholdings on the estates also appeared in the 17th century.

The estate was inherited by the Cudrios’ grandchild, Andreas Lumholtz, who became known for hosting festivities at Losby.

Christiania merchant Peder Cudrio began building his fortune at Losby, eventually controlling much of the forested land between Oslofjorden and Øyeren, an area of about 40,000 acres. After Peder Cudrio’s death, his wife Karen Cudrio managed the properties for 32 years.

King Karl Johan of Sweden and his retinue visited Losby, among the most prominent guests associated with the estate.

The old manor house at Losby was built; it later became the historic core of the modern Losby Gods hotel.

Lorentz Meyer Boeck became the first chairman of Lørenskog when it became a separate municipality.

Kathrine Boeck, who had managed Losby alone for 22 years, died on New Year’s Eve. Because the Boecks had no children, the estate was divided among 18 relatives, creating the joint property I.S. Losby.

Modernization changed the estate’s operations: staffing was reduced, tractors and forestry machinery were introduced, and large areas were deforested.

The estate was eventually split apart, and Losby was transformed into the Losby Gods estate; another historic hotel source notes that the property was handed over to a contracting company that restored the inn into a historic destination.

The old manor house from 1850 was renovated, restored, and reopened beside a modern hotel and conference center.

Losby Gods was inducted into Historic Hotels Worldwide.
