  • Not for older people...

by alliemfng on 2020-01-09 03:06 pm

This is place alright. Definitely not worth the price in my opinion. The rooms are average; of three rooms that our family took, each had an issue. One had no heat, another had no working outlets in the bathroom and the third had a musty smell. My biggest issue though was the service. The man who welcomed us was nice, but the other valets were not. The worst part was when it started pouring freezing rain late at night. Our rooms were by the pool so we had to go down steps. I asked if we could be dropped right at the room. After asking a few people, finally one said he would arrange to drop us right at the door. We waited 25 minutes in the freezing cold while it rained, when they eventually dropped us they insisted we walk down the stairs in the rain. I wouldn't mind, but I was concerned about my parents. We had a few other incidents like that. I would not go there again unless forced to for a wedding or event. They are not considerate of older people at all.

  • A set up for paradise!

Beautiful views of the mountains, welcoming staff, appointed spa, golf course, fitness center, different restaurants - this place was wonderful for three generations of us this holiday season. And the resort is growing! Plans are in place for more "units" and more private reception facilities. This is a great idea as we were limited in the indoor spaces we had to enjoy as the winter season was pretty chilly. Thankfully, fire pits provided welcome and warm hearths outside for us to encircle. I hope they include more of those in the development plans!

  • Already planning our next stay!

We loved our first trip to Ojai Valley Inn. The grounds are beautiful and expansive, and (generally--more below) incredibly quiet. Staff are friendly, professional and accommodating. We can't wait to return.

    Pros:
    - Rooms are spacious and updated
    - Plenty of activities from bike rentals to golf to the Farmhouse activities (which we didn't get a chance to use)
    - The property is very kid-friendly, but doesn't feel overrun with kids
    - Staff very helpful and accommodating. (Thanks especially to Scott at the front desk, and there were several others who were great too!). We had a situation where the people above us were loud every morning. When I mentioned it in passing on checkout, OVI remedied the situation. I didn't expect them to do anything except a cursory apology, b/c it's not their fault when guests wake up early and run hurdles in their living room, but they really handled it well.
    - 10 or so Tesla chargers onsite.

    Cons
    - Definitely book in advance for a restaurant reservation. We couldn't get in for any of the nights we were there because we didn't plan ahead.

  • One of the best hotels ever

Stayed here right before Xmas with my wife. One of the best staycations we've ever had. The grounds are gorgeous, the staff could not have been more friendly and helpful, and the food was great. An incredibly special trip that we hope to make again soon!

  • Canât Stay Away, But...

We love the Ojai Inn and Spa. But honestly it's got a few issues it needs to address. So, some advice. If you ask for any kind of grace--like an early check-in--do not expect it to happen. The staff at the Inn seem to work on the principle that reassurance is sufficient to the day. Same goes for the timing of shuttle pickups. Our suite was costly and beautiful but the scented candles hadn't been refilled, lightbulbs didn't work, the gizmo that turns the bathtub shower into a proper pour down was stuck shut, no kindling or paper to light the patio fire pit, no minibar, etc. Frequently the excuse for these kinds of minor irritants is "It's a really busy weekend/holiday," but the mark of a great resort is always readiness and the willingness to make special efforts for guests whenever possible. The chef at Olivella continues to delight, however, as does server David and the Sommelier, one of very few women in the world to achieve that status. She's attentive, gracious, and knowledgeable. The local black cod was perfect, though I'd avoid the green salad since "fresh lettuces" seems to be a misnomer. Still gorgeous, beautifully landscaped and situated, and a special shout-out to the Spa staff for going beyond the call of duty to help us with some difficulties, but the Inn either needs to try harder to serve, or be more straightforward about what's possible and what isn't. Till then, expect some glitches, and don't try to do ANYTHING on a tight schedule.
