History

Originally built as a private residence in 1896, The Bretton Arms Country Inn (now Omni Bretton Arms Inn) first opened its doors to hotel guests in 1907. The inn operated as an extension of Mount Washington and Mount Pleasant Hotels which served as the Conference Secretariat’s headquarters during the 44-nation Bretton Woods Monetary Conference in 1944. The Bretton Arms Country Inn closed to the public when it became staff housing for The Mount Washington Resort in 1973.

But that certainly wasn’t the end for The Bretton Arms Country Inn. In 1986, the inn underwent an extensive renovation and reopened to the public. More good news was in store for The Bretton Arms Inn after the renovation; the inn was designated a National Historic Landmark as part of Mount Washington Resort’s campus.

Omni Bretton Arms Inn, Bretton Woods, a charter member of Historic Hotels of America since 1989, dates back to 1896.
