  • Only One Night

by kalsec on 2019-11-11 10:02 am

My wife and I stayed at the Martha Washington for one night on our way to another destination. The staff could not have been nicer -- very courteous and professional. From the outside, the inn looked a little different than I expected. It's right on the road in Abingdon. I had a different image from the pic -- not a complaint, just an observation. We ate dinner there, and it was very good. I will say that the menu in the restaurant was different than the one online. This wasn't a big deal, but it surprised us. The food was very good, and the staff, again, was great. We also had breakfast there before we left. It felt more mass produced than dinner, but it was fine. The room had a very comfortable bed and great shower. I recommend it if in Abingdon.

  • Not happy with the service

    by beachgirl12345 on 2019-11-08 03:09 am

Room was very small. No room service. Our coffee pot was not working and when I called the front desk and asked for two cups of coffee i wasd told to go to the restaurant to the coffee bar which meant getting dressed to do so. It was not replaced and had the same prob;lem our second day. I reported again to the front dest and got a roll of the eyes and a look of oh well. Our mattress was very hard and uncomfortable. The sheets kept coming loose as the bottom was not fitted.
The hotel itself is beautiful and located close to everything.

  • Lovely place

We spent only one night so we could attend the Barter Theater, and it was worth the cost. We had two rooms on the second floor, one a king sized bed, the other with two Queen beds. Both rooms were lovely, the beds comfortable. Breakfast the next morning was great.

Make sure you check out the doll house in the library. Next time we go, we'll leave time for some of the Inn's activities, such as riding, hiking, tennis courts.

  • Great Old Hotel

by theOddBee on 2019-10-22 05:17 pm

This is a great old property with lots of history! We were just passing through for the night so I didn't get to see everything the town has to offer.

We had suite 210. The room was spacious and mostly comfortable. I will say that the toilet is uncomfortably close to the shower door. I am a big lady and I had to sit on the toilet side-saddle. Also the bed is REALLY tall. I have back problems and it was honestly hard to get in and out of bed without straining myself. I had to drag over a creaky antique chair to climb on to get in and out of bed, and to use as a nightstand as only one side of the bed has one.

The grounds are just lovely. We didn't swim inside but the pool looked good, if a little chemical-y. We used the outdoor hot tub which was just what we needed after a long day of driving. There's a huge tennis court out back with lots of things for the kids to do, including a trampoline. Also there's an entire mini-golf course!

The restaurant was great. I had poutine fries and a steak for dinner. Breakfast was good as well, nothing too spectacular but just what we needed before a long day of driving. All of the dining room chairs have arms, save for like 6 in the front of the restaurant. As mentioned I am a big gal. The regular dining room chairs were really uncomfortable for me to sit in. I suffered through dinner and ended up with welts on my thighs, but for breakfast asked the waitress to drag me over an armless chair. It seemed like I was the first person to ever ask her for that but she was very accommodating.

Make sure to ask the hotel staff if they've seen any ghosts if that's your jam! Everyone we spoke to had at least a secondhand story. They also hand out a pamphlet that tells a few of their most popular ghost stories!

  • Another great stay

We've stayed at the Martha Washington inn three time in the past 15 years. Always amazing. Service great. Room lovely. We could walk to town for dinner every evening. The only thing I missed this time...no pumpkin pancakes!!
