  • Weekend getaway

We loved this place and will visit again! It was very charming and had a lot to offer the history and structured the hotel is interesting. The breakfast was good and portions were fair. The supper menu was slim but the main dining hall was under renovation. The Ballroom was beautiful I enjoyed the grill being in there. The pool
Towels are large and pool towel worthy! The hot tub was so nice and relaxing I was disappointed that they didn't restock the toiletries each day and the kitchen runs out of food and drinks. One morning they didn't have orange juice, gravy, or white toast. With the rate your paying from being $200-$600 per night I expect outstanding service. The staff were friendly but few. The front desk lady bless her heart I don't think she is very happy in life but did do her job. Rooms were large beds were harder than we are use to

  • Beautiful converted college building

This is a large set of buildings right on Main Street across from the Barter Theater. It has old world charm and was a women's college originally in the 1800's. It has fire places going in some of the common rooms, serves tea in the afternoon and has the Sister's restaurant.

  • A New Favorite

The service is excellent. The room was excellent. The ambiance was excellent. The location was excellent. The proximity to other amenities was excellent. I'm thankful, Thanksgiving with my family was simply fabulous.

  • Currently Not a Good Value

The Martha has all the grandeur that you have grown to enjoy. The staff are extremely nice and helpful The port aperitif in the evening a nice gesture. Welcome bags are provided with water and a few snacks, plus a 10% voucher for the gift shop - a nice new addition. So, things are not all bad. Disappointments include many channels on cable TV not available (remember, you are paying $200+ for the room per night), very difficult to negotiate between channels, and the grounds poorly manicured (lots of leaves and downed branches on the sidewalks and premises). Had to call housekeeping and request more toilet paper. The Thanksgiving meal at $55 per person included a choice of three appetizers (choose one), four entrees choose one), eight vegetables (choose three), and four desserts (choose one). Of the vegetable choices, one was cornbread dressing. Sorry, but if I want turkey on Thanksgiving, I do not expect one of my three vegetable options to be the dressing - it should be a part of the turkey. Also, the vegetables only had four vegetarian options - the others had bacon or bacon drippings. One of the four choices of dessert was apple cobbler, which in reality was an apple crumble and not at all a cobbler, and came with a dollop of whipped cream - no al a mode. Really - at $55, no ice cream with your apple pie? The only "extra" provided in your meal was a single small cornbread muffin. Why not a basket of muffins for the table? It would also have been a nice gesture to have a small portion of cranberry salad or sauce with the meal. Really?! Thanksgiving dinner with NO OPTION for anything cranberry?!?!? So, overall not horrible, but not quite up to the price you are paying.

  • Wonderful Birthday Weekend

Everything about this place is nostalgic. The charmingly squeaky hardwood floors and lovely antique decor made me feel like I had stepped back in time. The guest room was very large and tastefully decorated. The variety of bed pillows was very nice. The king size bed had a really nice mattress-topper that made the bed extra cozy. The large tiled shower with an extra hand-held sprayer was much appreciated too.
The complimentary breakfast was great. The staff in the restaurant was extra friendly and suggested a few local attractions.
One of our favorite things to do was lounge in front of the fireplace in the library. The oversized chairs with ottomans were a super comfortable place to sip the evening port wine.
The location right across the street from the Barter Theater was ideal. We just walked across the street to enjoy our show. I hope to make this a yearly tradition.
