Originally a 12-room boarding house, the building was converted into a magnificent three-story hotel by the famous Sarkies Brothers during the early 20th century. The hotel has since been a major meeting place in the city for locals and international travelers alike. Many famous luminaries from throughout the world have stayed at The Strand over the years, including George Orwell, Richard Kipling, and King Edward VIII. Visitors can easily explore Yangon’s rich Colonial heritage from the hotel.
