If you like feeling like your in a dorm...this is for u

Checking in ...which was an blast from the past freshman dorm experience. The staff are very sweet college kids. Surprisingly not to knowledgeable about the town or history of hotel.
Our room which was to be an ADA accessible room with a "roll in shower"; I think it was a closet at one time. The shower was about 3 ft. by 4 ft. No bench to sit in, we did get a chair from the front desk that just fits in shower. The room was clean and big enough for wheelchair to maneuver after we moved a chair.
The bed was a low platform bed, hope you don't have to transfer from a wheelchair to bed, good luck.
If you want something quirky this is for u. It is an interesting hotel with an interesting past.

I was delightfully surprised with the charm of this historic property when I decided to stay one night on a road trip. The effort made to keep original features of the hospital are much appreciated. The bed was extremely comfortable and bathroom spacious and well appointed. Although the restaurant has been closed due to COVID, the staff provided a list of restaurants willing to deliver.

This is the forth time we've stayed at the Blackburn. Always clean and updated and the staff is friendly and accommodating. Convenient to town and close enough to the highway. Hard to feel safe and clean during the pandemic but they are on top of it.

This resort has so much going for it. A uniquely beautiful set of grounds that evoke gentrification as well as mystery. The hotel is a restored state hospital. The rooms are crisp/clean, and cool-trendy, blending the historic hardwood floors and clerestory glass with modern fixtures. Common areas are historically beautiful as well--don't miss out on climbing the spiral stairs to the tower/widows walk on the top floor of the main building. There are several buildings surrounding the grounds that are still abandoned including sanitarium buildings, a prison, and cemetery which you are officially not supposed to trespass on, but leads to the mysterious, gothic allure of the place. Hauntingly beautiful is the literal theme here. We swear this lends to the perception that the place could be haunted, but staff modestly demurs on that subject. A small restaurant and bar on the site contribute to this properties claim as a resort and not just a hotel. All staff here, including front desk, is particularly young but they are as uber-friendly as they are hip. Another major plus here is the close proximity of the hotel to all the cool stuff that Staunton has to offer--bars, restaurants, galleries, shops and it is very convenient to Skyline Drive and the National Park. Highly recommended.

  • Great 50th Anniversary weekend during Covid

Great 50th Anniversary weekend during Covid

The Blackburn Inn was just what we needed. Since we were not permitted to go many places due to Covid 19, the Blackburn Inn filled our needs. We were looking for some place to celebrate our anniversary and the Blackburn did not disappoint. While the restaurant was closed, we brought most of our food with us. Our room was fantastic with a view of the front of the inn. The Blackburn did everything in their power to make guests feel safe. To our pleasant surprise the local Shakespeare company was presenting a play the weekend we were there. The picnic basket which was available for purchase was great. We even got a tour up to the cupola which gave us excellent views of Staunton. The Blackburn Inn is close to wineries and the Shenandoah National Park. Downtown Staunton was worth the walk as well.
