Originally opened in 1924 under the name Stonewall Jackson Hotel, our historic hotel in downtown Staunton, Virginia, was restored to preserve many original features while expanding to serve today's guests needs. Located in the heart of the city, our hotel has a heritage dating back to a bygone era, and its architecture and charm reflect its fascinating journey.
The $21.1 million renovations in 2005 added a complete range of modern amenities and services to the hotel. While the hotel has been renovated, it still retains its historic charm and character. - Discover the Colonial Revivalist style of this hotel. Originally built in 1924, this fantastic historic hotel is an excellent example of renowned American architect H.L. Stevens’s work.
- Marvel at into the lobby area with its marble floors, glass display cases, and dormered entryways all restored to their original splendor. The chandeliers and wall sconces in the lobby and in other parts of the hotel, such as the Colonnade Ballroom, are all original.
- Admire a working 1924 Wurlitzer organ, believed to be the only one of its kind, located in the mezzanine. The organ has been precisely restored to its original condition and tone. It is the only known working 1924 Wurlitzer organ.

- Enjoy a fun-filled night of theatre at the American Shakespeare Center’s Blackfriars Playhouse. With unfussy bench seating and cushions for rent, it is the world’s only re-creation of Shakespeare’s indoor theatre.

The museum operates on about 200 acres, with 11 major exhibits that show how a new and unique culture evolved in early America from its roots in the Old World.

The complex contains the President’s birthplace (known as “The Manse”), a library that houses materials from during and immediately after his lifetime, a museum that houses the President’s 1919 Pierce Arrow limousine, and a gift shop.
- Visit Polyface Farm for a self-guided tour anytime Monday through Saturday with their open-door policy. Then schedule a Grass Stain educational walking tour or Lunatic genuine hay wagon tour. Joel Salatin, famous for his Lunatic Farmer blog and inclusion on documentaries such as Food, Inc. and Farmageddon, and his family have revolutionized how we think about the food eatten today.
