In 1907, Italian stonemasons, using locally quarried stone, built the four-story Hotel La Rose. Each guestroom is currently decorated in turn-of-the-20th-century style; the corridors are lined with the original wainscoting and the staircase from the San Francisco Cable Car Barn enhances the lobby. The original building has elevator access to all four stories, which contain 29 non-smoking guestrooms. The Carriage House, with farmhouse-inspired motif, was constructed in 1984, and has 19 additional guestrooms built around a rose garden courtyard, each with a private patio or balcony. Hotel La Rose is located in historic Railroad Square, an area that bustled with train activity in the late 19th century but is now a colorful shopping and dining district. This wonderful historic hotel has also been listed in the U.S. National Register of Historic Places since 1977.
