Secluded in the farmlands of Stockton, New Jersey, sits the charming and historic Woolverton Inn. The cozy inn rests high above the Delaware River and 300 acres of rolling farmland and forest cover its surroundings. The Inn is an elegant 1792 stone manor, and the lodging options are beautifully appointed with enhanced amenities and breathtaking views of the pastures and farmland. The estate has been well preserved and has one of the loveliest settings in the valley, with its sheep pastures being the highlight for many guests. The sheep graze the grounds of the Inn and love greeting guests and receiving treats. The Woolverton Inn is a romantic escape into the pastoral countryside and allows its visitors to unwind from the stresses of life and enjoy simplicity.

- Discover the Federal-style architecture that has defined the Woolverton Inn for centuries. Federal architecture dominated American cities and towns from 1780-1840. The architectural form evolved by the earlier Georgian design principles, which influenced both British and American culture. Federal style is easy to recognize due to its unique symmetrical and geometric design elements and these foundations can be seen throughout Woolverton Inn.
- Gaze at the details of the brass and iron decorations as well as the elliptical figures and fan-shaped motifs seen in various areas of the Inn. Architects concentrated these features around the front entrance where cornices, iron molding and sculpted fanlight reside today.
- Understand the materials and tools used for this particular Federal style architecture. The exterior walls were primarily composed of clapboard since the Inn was constructed in the countryside. However, in urban areas, most exterior walls are made from brick. The Palladian-themed windows and hipped roof convey a sense of balance that allow for natural light to infiltrate through the structure.

- Explore the spectacular home of Henry Mercer by taking a trip to Fonthill Castle. The castle was built between 1908-1912 and belonged to Henry Mercer (1856-1930) an archaeologist, anthropologist, ceramicist, scholar and antiquarian. Mercer built the Castle as his home and showplace for his collections of tiles and prints. Upon his death in 1930, Mercer left his concrete “Castle for the New World” in a trust as a museum of decorative tiles and prints. Today guests can walk around the castle and explore the grounds and museum.
- Walk the trails at The Delaware & Raritan (D&R) Canal State Park. The D&R consist of 25 miles of well-maintained trails that run along the New Jersey and Pennsylvania sides of the river. This trail can be accessed directly from Woolverton Inn, or guests can drive and park at the numerous locations for different hiking options.
- Enjoy horseback riding at the many horse farms and stables that are close to the Inn. The rural part of New Jersey is home to many equestrian sports and Kierson Farms is a friendly equine group that offers riding lessons. Kierson Farms offers lessons seven days a week and guests are welcome to the farm to learn about horseback riding or even go for a ride themselves.

- Tour the world’s largest miniature wonderland at Northlandz. The tiny world on display features a huge variety of detailed miniature art, including replicas of real-world landmarks. The miniature world is 52,000 square feet (about half the area of a Manhattan city block) and showcases 400+ bridges, over 100 trains, eight miles of road tracks, 250,000 trees, and much more. Building this miniature world took 306,600 hours (about 35 years) of construction time and is an experience that will ignite all imaginations.
- Take a train back in time with the New Hope Railroad. The operation of the railroad dates to 1891 and since then, it has become a landmark of the region. The journey begins in New Hope, New Jersey and travels through the scenic hills and valleys of Buck County. Passengers experience breathtaking views of streams, idyllic farmlands and iconic landmarks, transporting them to a bygone era.
- Experience a hot air balloon ride over the beautiful countryside of western New Jersey, near the Delaware River. A-Lot-A Hot Air Balloon Rides offers flights that allow passengers to experience the views of Earth from a different vantage point. Forests, farm fields, and local wildlife like deer and fox can be easily spotted from up in the sky allowing passengers to see nature from a special lens.

- Enjoy tasty cocktails and bites at Under the Moon Café. The café is aesthetically pleasing with classic architecture and bistro tables on the veranda giving a Continental feel to the restaurant. The food is inspired by international flavors and made from scratch. The café features a full bar that includes exciting specialty cocktails, a wide variety of liquors, wines, bubbles, bottled beer, and eight rotating draft lines.
- Taste gourmet vegan food options at Spring & Vine, an upscale restaurant that features delicious vegan cuisine. The dishes are prepared with local seasonal vegetables and other ingredients, all of which are 100% vegan. Far from being boring or bland, the chef enjoys pairing flavors and ingredients that highlight a particular vegetable or component in the dish. - Dine at Bowman’s Tavern, a local eatery serving comfort food, live music and craft cocktails. Located just a short distance from Woolverton Inn, drinks and dishes are made with locally sourced ingredients from farms, dairy producers, and distillers.
