Day 6: Portsmouth, OH
Just west of where Portsmouth is located today, the humble town of Alexandria was founded in the 1790s. Alexandria was flooded numerous times by the Ohio River and the Scioto River and inspired Henry Massie to seek out a location to move the town away from the flood plains. Massie began to plan the new city by distributing the land and mapping the streets. Established as a city in 1815, Portsmouth was founded in 1803 and Alexandria disappeared soon after. Portsmouth quickly grew around an industrial base with the completion of the Ohio and Erie Canal, and the construction of the N&W rail yards and the B&O junction.

Day 7: Disembark - Cincinnati, OH
Though the journey ends in Cincinnati, if time permits, guests are encouraged to linger and learn about Cincinnati’s culture with a visit to a settler’s cabin or the famous Rookwood Pottery Factory for a souvenir.
