Even with its vibrant economic growth, Vietnam is as charming, picturesque and wondrous as the first time we cycled here more than a decade ago. Certainly, the country is thriving, but that just means the roads are a bit better (making our bikes a little happier), and even more luxurious hotels pepper the coast. But the people remain the same: gracious, warm, and infinitely inviting—and we certainly meet a lot of them on this epic journey from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City. In between, we take in all the highlights, from China Beach to the Imperial tombs to endless miles of scenic, colourful country and coastal roads.

Tour Itinerary

Day 1 | The Imperial City of Hue
The journey begins in Hanoi with an exploration of the city by cyclo (bike-propelled cart), to experience the historic architecture, tree-line boulevards, and the capital’s chaotic street life. A guided visit of the city will cover everything from its French colonial architecture to Ho Chi Minh’s mausoleum. After a mid-morning flight to Hue, the Imperial capital of Vietnam, the tour’s first bike ride will introduce bikers to the beautiful scenery of central Vietnam.

Day 2 | The Imperial City of Hue
The day’s 16 mile bike ride begins through quiet rice fields and over small riverside paths before ending at the Thien Mu Pagoda for a private riverboat cruise up the Perfume River to the tomb of the Nguyen king, Mihn Mang. Opt in for more biking after lunch or drive back to Hue to visit other imperial tombs before the evening’s dinner at a royal home.

Day 3 | Hoi An
In the morning, head to the Imperial Forbidden City to explore the former home of the last Vietnamese Imperial Dynasty, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Afterwards, guests will take a 2.5-hour drive along the coast to Da Nang for a quick lunch along the river. Afterwards, guests will begin the 18-mile ride through the countryside before heading to Hoi An, a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Day 4 | Hoi An
Enjoy a bike ride around Hoi An, passing through traditional rice paddies and fish farms, and finish at a favorite cooking school for a midmorning cooking class in a beautiful river setting. Afterwards guests will head to Hoi An via riverboat.

Day 5 | Nha Trang
Take an early one-hour flight to Nha Trang, and enjoy a quick lunch before beginning a bike ride alongside the Cai River, the Cham Temple, and to Ninh Van Bay.

Day 6 | Nha Trang
Guests may enjoy the day at their leisure or enjoy a 24-mile bike ride for a challenging ride along a coastal road.

Day 7 | Ho Chi Minh City
After a bike ride through the green rice fields surrounding Nha Trang, guests will catch a flight to Ho Chi Minh City to explore this vibrant metropolis on their own.

Day 8 | Ho Chi Minh City
In the morning, guests will speedboat up the Saigon River to the Cu Chi Tunnels and explore the quiet countryside. After the bike ride, guests will explore the tunnels that served as the underground headquarters for the Vietnamese resistance, before returning to Saigon via speedboat. The afternoon can be enjoyed at leisure before ending the trip with an unforgettable dinner at Ly Club.

Day 9 | Departure
After breakfast, guests will bid adieu to Vietnam and depart at their leisure.
