Haaheim Gaard was constructed in the years leading up to World War I, which was an era defined by its economic prosperity, artistic expression, and political intrigue.
The beginning of Haaheim Gaard dates back to the 14th century when the Black Death took the lives of the citizens of this rich agricultural region. Farming slowly began again in the 1500s, but it was not until 1658 when Norway's largest landowner and naval officer, Axel Mowat, presented several farms to Ludvig Rosenkrantz as a dowry for the marriage to his daughter, Karen. For almost 300 years, the Rosenkrantz family owned and populated the region and surrounding farmland. In 1717, the Haaheim family purchased a farm and land in Uggdal from the Rosenkrantzs where they renovated and expanded the houses. Haaheim Gaard, as it stands today, was built in 1907 and was opened as a guesthouse for countryside travelers. Today, Haaheim Gaard remains a rural gem providing charming accommodations alongside serene landscape affording a tranquil destination.
