Culinary Heritage

At Hotel Chourakukan, dining takes place throughout the historic rooms of Honkan. Guests can enjoy classic French cuisine prepared with ingredients from Kyoto and Shiga, English-style afternoon tea, seasonal pastries, and a collection of more than 100 Madeira wines. Breakfast is served daily in the historic Geihin-no-Ma reception room.

Le Chêne

Le Chêne serves classical French cuisine prepared from scratch using carefully selected ingredients from Kyoto and Shiga, including premium Tanba beef and rare Nanatani duck. Tanba beef is a top-grade Wagyu raised in the historic Tanba region of Kyoto and Hyogo and prized for its fine marbling, while Nanatani duck is raised in the natural environment of Kameoka, Kyoto, and supplied to a select number of restaurants throughout Japan. The restaurant is set within a Neoclassical dining room illuminated by a Baccarat chandelier.

Library Bar Madeira

Library Bar Madeira offers more than 100 varieties of Madeira wine to honor Murai Kichibei, and the historical connection between his tobacco fortune and Portugal. Guests can sample the collection through Madeira wine flights or simply enjoy the atmosphere of this guest-exclusive space.

Dessert Café Chourakukan

Dessert Café Chourakukan serves seasonal pastries, its original house-blended coffee, and English-style afternoon tea within the historic mansion. The coffee blend combines beans from Tanzania, Brazil, and Colombia.

Chourakukan Boutique

Chourakukan Boutique offers handmade cakes, cookies, jams, and other confections prepared by the pastry team. The selection includes sweets named after Kichibei Murai’s historic cigarette brands, "Murai's Hero" and "Murai's Camelia".

Breakfast and Cocktail Time

Breakfast for hotel guests is served inside Honkan’s historic Geihin-no-Ma reception room. A complimentary cocktail hour is also offered daily from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and delivered directly to guestrooms in room-service style.
