The grounds and the staff are very good. The people who staff the coffee shop are just lovely. The main areas - studies - are very conducive to sitting on my laptop and doing business. The rooms are dated and worn out. Not a good value for the expense. I really enjoyed the main areas and the coffee shop and the staff. The rooms are off enough for me to try another place next time.

Decided to stop at Kohler based on experience of my son... reviews were more varied than expected for a 5 star hotel... called to explore my concerns about reviews which depicted accommodations as "dark and dingy". Was advised it was a historic hotel so per its period the finish was dark woods... decided to take a chance... very glad I did... love staying in these historic grand hotels. First I received a great rate $370 inclusion of fees and taxes... greeted at entrance, car valet parked, mimosa's at reception, bell hop dressed in period clothing even filled ice bucket... majestic gardens reminiscent of the best in Europe... elegant ice cream, pastry, and coffee bar in midst of gardens, evening live music but subdued consistent with early 20th century... many restaurants and pubs in facility.... tried two both top notch.. had dinner at the Horse and Plow... great meal.. try their truffle fries... schizophrenic about their Bloody Mary though... did not know whether to drink it or eat it... typical of Wisconsin though. If you go, walk the gardens, the hotel, the streets, tour.the Kohler design center, take a factory tour... eat lunch at Whistling Straits,... lounge in the gardens... a 2 nite relaxing event.... one travels back to elegance of past splendor and forgets the tawdriness and mundane food and accommodations which characterize America today

  • In middle of town, not on golf course or isolated setting

We stayed at Inn on Woodlake, but toured and had lunch at The American Club. It has an interesting history including origins of Kohler workers being housed there. It is in middle of town surrounded by homes and stores. I was expecting it be on golf course or in more isolated setting. Not what I expected.

  • Definitely worth a visit!

This was our second visit to The American Club, the first being over 25 years ago. Everything is superb, exactly as we remembered it from out previous visit. The beautifully furnished rooms, the hotel grounds and facilities, the staff and service... everything was perfection. Definitely worth a visit!

  • Wow! Everything here is amazing and first class...

At first, I was not certain what to expect from such a high end luxury resort in the middle of northern wisconsin. However, at the end of my stay I was convinced that this is the place to stay, period. Beds are comfortable, bathrooms (with plenty of Kohler items) are beyond amazing...plus the staff is always going the extra mile to ensure one's stay is perfect.
