  • most convenient place in town

by williamNola on 2018-09-24 04:17 pm

across the street from the Alamo. a block away from the riverwalk. two blocks from the convention center. Alamo dome is just another two blocks. location. location.location. the bar downstairs is a little depressing ( it seems to be empty most of the time), same for the pool ( ditto ). parking is expensive ($25/ day ) considering everything is walking distance. breakfasts are very good. staff is too. kind of a cool older building with a lot more character than anything else in the area.

  • Trip with church family.

Great location and very friendly and accommodating staff. This historic facility is certainly well maintained and we would certainly consider as a top choice if in the area again. The baby grand piano in the lobby was a pleasant surprise and well tuned.

  • Wonderful stay at the Crockett!

    by Bluewater_464 on 2018-09-21 10:48 am

We just returned from a wonderful 6-night stay at the Crockett. The entire staff was very kind and extremely welcoming, from reception and the valet, to the breakfast waitstaff and evening bartender, to housekeeping and security. Every single staff person we met was eager to help with any question and very nice to talk to.

The king room (508) was extremely spacious with a comfy bed and several pillows. The AC worked perfectly, and the water pressure and water temp were also in perfect working order. The room and bathroom were both very comfortable, with a vanity area outside the bathroom. Housekeeping did an amazing job working around our schedule to keep the room spotless without disturbing us. We really appreciated the hard work these ladies do every day! There is a Keurig coffee maker and regular and decaf k pods in the room, very convenient and much better than the standard coffee options. The bathroom soaps and toiletries were very nice, and the hair dryer worked very well. There is no room safe, but there is a safe at reception. We had a view of the Alamo grounds from our room and other than an occasional truck or street cleaner going by it was very quiet. I saw many complaints in previous reviews about the window shutters and light getting in, but if you close them correctly (upward) the light isn't an issue. We were given a vip bag with some nice extras which came in handy when walking the area.

Breakfast is very good with two types of scrambled eggs, great sausages, bacon, as well as the waffle and pancake options. And of course a great selection of cereals, muffins, toast, bagels, juices and milk. The coffee (regular and decaf) is also very good. Can't imagine anyone complaining about these complimentary offerings, especially seeing how hard the dining area ladies work to keep everything fresh and hot. There is a place to drop your dishes after eating, and most folks do that. But we were amazed at a few groups who apparently are accustomed to being picked up after, leaving their table full and no tip! Very inconsiderate when you see how busy the one waitstaff is.

The pool is just off the hotel entrance and is very nice. We spent one day there alone, and another day with a very nice couple we met from Alberta. Several lounges and tables and a really nice quiet spot with a charming pool.

The hotel location is ideal, walk right across the street to there mall and down to the riverwalk extension, or walk to the Hyatt Regency and down to the Riverwalk to come out closer to Hard Rock, for example. We had originally booked the Omni La Mansion, but decided to stay at the Crockett and we were so very happy we made that change.

As mentioned there city bus is a great way to see any area and an all-day pass is just $2.75pp. You can use the pass on any of the routes including the 301, 40, and 11 A & B. We visited the Missions, Southtown/Historic District, Pearl Brewery area, and Market Square on a Saturday which was our favorite experience. Great food and wonderful people enjoying the music and dancing at the Market Square. For lunch we had great food at Casa Rio, and for dinner we really enjoyed B & D Ice House in Southtown for an excellent BBQ and brisket, Paisanos for an Italian dinner, Waxy's for great Irish dishes, and a special anniversary dinner at the Texas de Brazil restaurant.

The area around the hotel - as well as the Riverwalk and other sights we visited - are kept very clean, and everyone we met made us feel welcome. We visited the Omni, Menger, Hyatts, Westin, Hilton and other hotels, and although some like the Westin and Omni are more upscale, we are very happy that we chose the Crockett for our first visit to San Antonio. A nice historic experience, and a big THANK YOU to the entire staff there!!!

  • Pleasant stay

by mlrichins on 2018-09-19 12:09 am

We stayed six nights and for the most part it was a pleasant stay. It was close to the Alamo (we could see it out our window) and the River Walk. Thesis system was ready to manuver ant it took us to all the missions. For $2.75 a person for an all day bus pass, it was completely worth not having to navigate in the car. Our dayte valet was great! Robert made us feel very welcome and happy to help. The night shift guy did mot :( he was grumpy and not a good representative of the hotel. It was very quiet inside the hotel bit the street noise was very audible. They had a great breakfast with a large variety except it was the same every day and not gluten and dairy allergies friendly. Overall a great stay.
