  • Quaint but with modern touches

My husband and I recently made a visit to San Antonio to see the Alamo and enjoy the Riverwalk. We didn't want to stay at a cookie cuter chain hotel so we chose the Crockett. Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted and told we could check in around 12 instead of the usual check in time of 3. Since we had arrived on a really early flight, we left our bags and did a little sightseeing. We came back a little before 12 and were given our keys. The hotel is lovely on the inside. Original brick is displayed and the elevators are tiny but beautiful and restored to the original wood finish. Our room was small but well appointed with a super comfy beds and good pillows. I really dislike the small, flat pillows you get at some hotels and these were nice and fluffy and not too hard. It's not a fancy place so don't expect a huge walk-in shower or large flat screen tv. But the charm was what we were looking for and were not disappointed. There is a wonderful buffet style breakfast every morning and each item we tasted was exceptional. The usual scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage were tasty and hot. You can make a waffle or just enjoy fruit, cereal or a variety of muffins and breakfast cakes. It was clean and pleasant and the coffee was fresh and much needed each morning. I love my coffee, so I relish and expect it to be fresh and hot and was pleased to find it that way each morning. We stayed 3 nights and had not one complaint. We were only in our rooms for the occasional nap and nighttime so the small size was not a concern for us. If you have more than 2 people, I would definitely request a larger room. We booked through Southwest when we got our flight so our rate was very reasonable. I don't know what it would be booking directly from the hotel. Our cab ride from the airport was $25 each way without tip so you must factor that in unless you are renting a car. There is also a parking fee if you bring a vehicle. Call to find that out before you go as I believe it's a bit steep. I would recommend the Crockett as it is walking distance to the Alamo and Riverwalk and there is a very nice Mall directly across the Street. It is also easy to get to all the places that sell tickets to the many attractions downtown San Antonio offers. Make the trip. Well worth the time. Just a hint: go in the spring or fall. Summer is like 100 degrees and high humidity.

Great location. Within walking distance of the River Walk mall and the River Walk. Lots of great places to eat. Room was very clean with lots of towels. You can adjust the room temperature to what you like.

Best hotel in San Antonio for anyone. The hotel is full of history, the staff is friendly and helpful, and by far, the best breakfast bar everyday. When I come to San Antonio, I will stay no other place than the Crockett Hotel. Thanks

  • Great place to stay!

The accommodations were great! The hotel is literally across the street from the Alamo, access to the River Walk, and the mall. In July San Antonio is hot. We visited outside place in the mornings and late afternoons. Mid afternoon we shopped in the cool mall and watched the IMAX Alamo movie.

  • No complaints!

What a great location! It was beautiful looking right into the Alamo. It was so convenient being close to the River Walk, Alamo Plaza, shopping, Hemisfair Park, and everything downtown! We got a great deal. The staff was friendly and helpful. Parking, check-in/out were easy. Use valet parking. It's the same fee as self-park. Breakfast included eggs, sausage, waffles, pancakes, breads, bagels, muffins, fruit, yogurt, and more. The rooms are nicely done and very clean. It is a great historic hotel that has been remodeled very nicely. The well drinks (using drink tickets) were terrible using the worst alcohol available, but we asked so we knew.

It was all perfectly fine if not a bit boring. Staff was minimal (while very friendly and helpful). Ernie's was usually almost empty. The breakfast seating area was just a dark, empty space the rest of the day. The back door (which is actually the main door of the building except for check-in) is unmanned and seemingly abandoned. Again, no complaints. Everything was great. It just seemed that more could be done to make it more inviting.
