Tucked in the Green Mountains of Vermont, this country house was the dream of Alan Fletcher, who served as governor of Vermont from 1912 until 1915. Locally quarried stone graces the façade, while intricately carved California redwood and ornamental plasterwork bring warmth and elegance to the interior. Castle Hill was the first home in the state to be fully wired for electricity during its construction. Each floor was outfitted with nickel-plated faucets that would accommodate a hose in the event of fire. The home has retained many of Fletcher’s design hallmarks, including the grand staircase, the original wallpaper, decorative woodwork, and Tiffany light fixtures.
