• Explore the iconic Chatham Lighthouse just a few moments away. Constructed in 1808 to service the U.S. Coast Guard, it was the second light station to open on all of Cape Cod. It originally debuted with two towers, so as to distinguish it from the slightly older Highland Light (the missing tower eventually moved and became “Nauset Light”). The lighthouse’s first keeper, Samuel Nye, was appointed directly by U.S. President Thomas Jefferson.

• Visit the Chatham Windmill. Listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places, the windmill was originally the property of Benjamin Godley to grind corn. It is one of the most historic windmills standing in America today, as Godley built the structure back in 1797. (The windmill is also fully operational!)

• Travel along the Historic Chatham Main Street. This beautiful thoroughfare contains dozens of structures that date back to the mid-19th century, when most of Cape Cod was a haven for professional mariners. Now listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places as a district, the locale features many fantastic storefronts and restaurants to see.

• Tour the Atwood Museum nearby. Founded in 1926, the Atwood Museum serves as the home of the Chatham Historical Society. Much of the exhibitions featured inside cover the extensive history of Chatham, including its once prominent fishing industry. The museum itself is located within a mid-18th century house that belonged to Captain Joseph Atwood.

• Attend a thrilling theatrical performance at the Orpheum Theater. The Orpheum Theater dates back to the early 1900s, and has remained a fixture in the local community ever since (it did operate as a pharmacy for a for a few decades prior to returning to a theater in 2012). This fantastic venue showcases all kinds of entertaining movies that anyone will certainly enjoy.
