My spouse & I took a mini vacation to one of our favorite PA destinations..we got there Friday night & decided to eat at the hotel at their lovely courtyard bistro..everything was absolutely lovely until a patron decided that she would NOT wear to be seated ( a requirement listed in several different spots..after some discussion the manager ( I think) Ellen decided to allow her & her dinner guest to sit on a bench and wait for a table..I asked our server to let the management know that I wanted the guest to follow the same courtesies ALL the rest of the guests were required and put a mask on to be seated..she asked the guest and the guest declined to be on her mask and yet they still seated her..right next to us ! I proceeded to go over to the table and vocalize my displeasure that she was putting is all in danger by not following the rules
.not only did the manage Ellen support her stance but she said I was making a scene..and when our waitress came back to our table she said she was cashing us our..
So the guest that broke the rules for everyone's safety was supported by the staff and WE had to leave..we love this place but we will never support your business again based on this experience !!

  • Historic Hotel

    Historic Hotel

Hotel shows it's age, but that is because it has original woodwork, real wooden doors that need a regular key to open, not the key cards used in modern hotels.
The bathroom to our room was old, with the sink and toilet being low. My back did not appreciate the height. Everything was clean and the bed was comfortable.
Although it was old, I appreciated getting a look to the past.
Breakfast was "grab and go" because of the virus. Coffee was provided and the dining area was open to eat in. I would stay there again.

The Penn Wells Hotel is a view into what Wellsboro was like in the old days. The town is still beautiful but the hotel itself is very faded. If you're looking for more modern amenities, stay at the Lodge property. If you don't mind small rooms with tiny bathrooms, sloped floors, and window air conditioners, the hotel is fine. All that said, the staff members were all very nice and helpful and the hotel is doing the best it can with the COVID restrictions. The hotel provided a more than adequate grab and go breakfast. The location is perfect.

We stayed at this hotel for just one night for a mid-week getaway to hike the Grand Canyon of PA. The hotel was charming, very clean and the staff friendly and helpful. We have no complaints. Yes, the hotel isn't ultra modern, but knowing we were staying at an historic hotel, we didn't expect that. The rustic nature is part of the charm. After hiking all day, we didn't want to leave the hotel to eat dinner. We took a chance on the hotel restaurant. It provided excellent food at a reasonable cost. We plan on returning to Wellsboro in the fall and again for Christmas. And we will stay at the Penn Wells.

    Anniversary overnight trip

So looking forward to a night away for our anniversary. Room size was great, but overall hotel needs updating/cosmetic makeover. We were instructed on how to use the heat (radiators) and the heat worked great. However, the windows were very drafty, so much that the curtains moved (February 14 was a very cold night). Dinner was great, breakfast okay. Should have had breakfast at the Diner. Our bill was adjusted for the very cold room. Walls are thin, sound travels. We were in room 131.
