The Emily Morgan is the “Official Hotel of the Alamo” and exemplifies urban adventure in the heart of San Antonio, Texas. Dating back to the 1920s, The Emily Morgan Hotel was originally the Medical Arts Building and features timeless architecture and intricate Gothic-style embellishments that tell an interesting story of the building’s famous history. With stylish and charismatic guestrooms that exude luxury, lavish amenities, and outstanding guest services, the hotel is a welcome retreat for both business and leisure travelers to San Antonio.

Discover

  • Discover The Emily Morgan Hotel, built by famous architect Ralph Cameron. The hotel was originally constructed in 1924 to be the Medical Arts Building on the Alamo Plaza. The 13-story tower is influenced by the Gothic Revival and features pieces of cast iron, unique ornamentation, and a copper roof with wood ribs.
  • Look for one of the most interesting architectural features of the building—an array of gargoyles that line the building, each portraying a medical ailment. The hotel was used as a Medical Arts Building from 1924 to 1976, and housed doctors’ offices and a hospital for patients.
  • Stay in the historic building which was turned into a hotel in 1984 and named after Emily D. West, a 20-year-old black indentured servant who had been captured along with other members of her household by the Mexican forces six weeks after the Alamo battle on April 16, 1836. Emily was indentured to Colonel James Morgan, and custom at the time dictated that indentured servants take the surname of their master, hence the reason she is more widely known as “Emily Morgan.”

Explore

  • Explore the neighborhood with the Official Hotel of the Alamo, just steps away from the Alamo mission, one of the most famous landmarks in Texas. Walk through the chapel where Davy Crockett fought his final battle. Stand in the exact position as the Texan rebels when they made their last stand. The Alamo overflows with a rich history dating back over 300 years.
  • Stroll along the San Antonio River Walk, where Texas tradition mingles with the modern. Situated along the banks of the San Antonio River, the San Antonio River Walk has been a Texas treasure since the 1950s. Explore this large labyrinth of walkways.
  • Head over to the King William Historical District. Settled by wealthy German merchants in the late 1800s, San Antonio’s first suburb consists of several blocks of stunning mansions set amid lovely landscaping. In 1968, King William became the city’s first designated historic district and in 1972, it was listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places.

Experience

  • Enjoy some of San Antonio’s biggest and most electric concerts at the iconic Alamodome, only a five-minute walk from the hotel. This multi-purpose stadium also houses various sporting events.
  • Tour the San Fernando Cathedral. This cathedral was built in 1873 to replace the original founded more than one hundred years earlier. It is the most historic standing church building in Texas, and for all of its more than 281 years, has been serving the people of the Archdiocese and San Antonio.
  • Experience some of San Antonio’s most beautiful and historic landmarks. With sites like the Mission San José and the San Antonio Missions National Historical Park located throughout the city, San Antonio features some of the most photogenic architecture in the United States.
