  • Historic Hotel With Charm to Burn

by ElaineAndGreg on 2019-08-08 07:00 pm

The Capital Hotel is perfectly located in the older part of Little Rock, near the convention center, Clinton Library, Riverwalk area and other sites.

The hotel has loads of southern charm and they play that up to the hilt. The hotel was built in the 1870s and allegedly visited by President Ulysses Grant. There is a very large elevator and the story they give you, likely apocryphal, is that he tried to use it to take a horse up to his room. I doubt it, but I like the idea that they tell it.

The lobby is beautiful and elegant. My room was large and comfortable. Despite the historic setting, the desk in my room had 4 UBS plugs and 4 regular plugs, enough to suit just about any traveler or family of travelers. Wi-fi was fast and easy and included in the price (as it should be).

The bathroom was spacious and modern with lots of natural stone. It's also stocked with higher end soaps and shampoo products.

There are many nice touches throughout the hotel. When I checked in they actually walked me to my room rather than standing behind a counter. They had turndown service at night, complete with a nice piece of chocolate/toffee candy. They'll leave a paper (the local paper or the Wall Street Journal) at your door. They also have a system where they leave the next day's linens by your door in a wicker basket with a monogrammed cover. I don't know the reason for this, but it was just another difference between this hotel and many others.

Parking in the area is scarce. I valet parkef for $19 and it was worth it. If you call them from your room before heading down, your car will likely be ready by the time you get to the lobby.

They don't have a coffee maker in your room, but they do have free coffee in the comfortable lobby. I actually prefer that approach - the coffee is very good and it gives more of a feel of a nice stay even on a business trip.

There are two nicer restaurants downstairs and several others in the area.

I really liked the warm stay I had at this historic hotel.

  • Great location

Enjoyed my stay at the Capital hotel while attending a convention at the Statehouse Convention center.
They go above and beyond in every area. Lively rooms with 14' ceilings. Lovely balcony with great view.

  • Grand Old Lady

My family of 3 stayed here for one night on a cross country road trip. To say this hotel was grand and elegant would be an understatement. Everyone was kind, helpful and very proud of their hotel- as they should be. It was fun exploring the hotel and sitting on the lovely deck. The room, with its extremely high ceilings was beautiful and well appointed. The sheets were amazing! The location is perfect- easy walk to downtown. Valet was quick and more than happy to grab a bag that I forgot in the car. I highly recommend this hotel and if we are ever back in Little Rock, we will be sure to stay here again.

  • There is a daily valet/parking fee. No refrigerator, coffee maker nor microwave in room.

This was a beautiful hotel, located in the heart of downtown. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. We were surprised to not have a coffee maker in the room, nor was there an option for a refrigerator or microwave. All 3 of these would have made a week stay more convenient. Upon checkout, we were surprised to learn there was a daily parking/valet fee. This was NEVER mentioned when booking, nor anywhere on our reservation information. We tipped the valet staff generously and perhaps would have opted for a lesser amount had we known there was a daily fee being charged too.

  • I'm usually wary of historic hotels but this one delivers

Often old hotels have a musty scent and the amenities feel dated/worn, not to mention a little creepy (particularly in places that have a dark history like Little Rock.) I tried this hotel because it's by far the nicest in the area, and can't stop thinking about how much I enjoyed my stay.

I felt at home from the moment I walked in. Every person working there delivered true 5 star service.

The lobby, balcony, and parlor are gorgeous. My room was small but beautifully appointed with high ceilings, so the effect was cozy rather than claustrophobic. The bed and pillows were very comfortable (I'm picky about both) and the courtyard side room was quiet.

Both restaurants on-site are fantastic (service, food quality, presentation, drinks, and above all...ambiance.)

There's not much to do in Little Rock but that worked out fine for me because I really didn't want to leave the hotel. It was just such a pleasant place to be in every way. My travels for work will bring me back this way again, and I'm already looking forward to this hotel.
