2022 Historic Hotels Worldwide Awards of Excellence Nominee Finalist

Situated on Rome’s historic Via Giulia, the DOM Hotel has entertained guests in the Eternal City since 2013. But the building has not always been a luxurious five-star hotel. It originally functioned as a palace that was connected to a much larger church known as the Santa Lucia del Gonfalone. The prominent Gonfalone Fraternity commissioned its construction at a time when many other religious edifices began to emerge along the Via Giulia at the beginning of the 1600s. The organization continued to care for the complex for the next three centuries, hiring a number of celebrated architects to maintain its structural integrity. For instance, Marco David and Francesco Azzurri brilliantly restored the location’s interior over the years, saving much of its historic marble and brickwork in the process.

Today, the DOM Hotel proudly showcases its rich heritage through its wonderfully preserved architecture and historic displays. Even its name is an homage to its past, as “DOM” stands for “Deo Optimo Maximo” – a Latin inscription found inscribed on the adjoining church next door. The hotel offers 18 beautiful guestrooms and suites, each overlooking the historic Via Giulia from wide windows. Spaces are adorned with refined decor, handcrafted furnishings, international works of art, and original elements of the building. Soothing warm color palettes in shades of white, dove, and tobacco beautifully compliment large stately mirrors and oversized decorative headboards to recreate the intimate and relaxing atmosphere of a historic noble home.

Guests staying at the DOM Hotel can stroll out the front door and intp the intersection of art, culture, and immense beauty that defines Rome. Explore the artisan workshops, vintage boutiques, and traditional wine bars that line the stone-paved streets of the Regola quarter. Discover the history and architecture of St. Peter’s Basilica, the Vatican, Castel Sant'Angelo, Palazzo Farnese, Galleria Spada, Chiostro del Bramante, Palazzo Braschi, Stadio di Domiziano, Sant'Ivo alla Sapienza, San Luigi dei Francesi, and Pinacoteca del Tesoriere. The Jewish Ghetto is also a short walk away with its ancient culinary traditions and a number of great points of interest, including the Turtle Fountain designed by Giacomo Della Porta.
