  • Expensive but worth it

by Waynelynn on 2020-02-24 07:43 pm

This resort is truly stunning! It's very expensive, but the views and stay were worth it. The hotel is old and all wood, so noise from other guests is going to happen. The beds definitely need to be updated. Room service was ridiculously expensive. We ordered 2 regular club sandwiches with fries, nothing else....$81. I suggest grubhub, doordash, etc. We had a King Victorian room with balcony and ocean view, absolutely stunning views! I loved it here and will definitely be back. Hope they update the beds and at least add microwaves to the rooms.

  • Not what I'd hoped...

    by LELMD23 on 2020-02-24 01:03 pm

I stayed in 2 adjoining rooms with girlfriends for a long weekend getaway. The hotel is lovely and situated in such an idyllic location. All the hotel staff with whom we interacted were pleasant and helpful. The room was large and spacious with a lovely balcony with views of the beach/ocean.

Several things occurred both before and during out stay that detracted from our overall experience:
    1) We booked the hotel for a spa getaway weekend. We were only notified that the spa was closed for repairs about 14 days prior to the trip. With more notice we might have made alternate plans and booked at a different hotel.
    2) The pool options for the resort were not great. There was a lovely pool area with hot tub- not huge, but nice. However it is too small for a resort this size. There were no adult only pools available to main resort guests (there are some if you pay for the "ocean village" areas). Our experience was miserable and we stayed at the pool for about 30 minutes before giving up.
    3) There is an up-charge for EVERYTHING - even to bring 4 wine glasses to the room for the bottle of wine we purchased in the hotel giftshop!

The beach facilities were lovely, but we were unable to enjoy them due to the weather.

In all, though the hotel is picturesque and lovely, I am unlikely to return or recommend it to friends. It's not worth the money...

    Dear LELMD23,

Thank you for taking the time to craft this thorough review. Although it's wonderful to hear that you enjoyed our breathtaking beachfront setting and spacious guest rooms, I'm sorry the rest of your stay fell below par. I apologize for not notifying you about our spa sooner. I totally understand your disappointment here and would feel equally irritated in your position. I appreciate your input about our pool area. I value your suggestions and will keep them in mind as we continue updating our other pool decks. It's disappointing to hear that your stay at the Hotel del Coronado didn't match it's value--I sincerely apologize for not providing an exceptional experience. I appreciate your feedback and hope you will allow us the opportunity to make things up to you in the future.

    Sincerely,

  • Dream come true!

by Missmarymacc on 2020-02-24 09:37 am

I have always wanted to stay at the Hotel Del, and finally made it happen. It did not disappoint. Room 3512 is lovely, but directly under the roofing project going on and has workers right outside your one window all day. It's huge, but noisy. We moved to 3359 which was a bit more standard with a courtyard view.

It was a pleasure having you and I look forward to welcoming you back sometime soon for another dream-worthy getaway.

  • Weekend getaway

    by Delphine W on 2020-02-23 06:09 pm

This is an old, historic hotel, and as a Midwesterner, was not aware of the cultural significance of this property. Knowing that major renovations are in progress, I lowered my expectations. What I found was a decent room in a hotel a that is a National Historic Landmark, with a great view of the ocean, friendly staff, and beautiful architecture. Took the hotel tour, and enjoyed learning the history of the area and visiting some of the other buildings associated with the Del. The renovations did not impact my enjoyment of the beach at all. The restaurants were good, and Orange Avenue provided opportunities to explore.

    Dear Delphine W,

What a delightful review! It's absolutely wonderful to hear about your lovely escape to our iconic hotel. From unparalleled ocean views to our enlightening hotel tour, I'm ecstatic you enjoyed every aspect of your Del experience. We go to great measures to shield the restoration from guests' getaways, and it's encouraging to hear our efforts were successful. I appreciate your positive feedback and hope to welcome you back for another unforgettable SoCal vacation soon.

  • Maintenance wakes you up in the middle of the night.

    by sandra2ra on 2020-02-22 05:23 pm

Check in was great, easy and fast. Our room was in a good location with a great view. There is a lot of construction going on so lots of noise. My issue was with maintenance knocking at our door just before midnight to inquire about a leak. We were all sleeping and my children were inconsolable for a few hours after that incidence. Not happy with that situation. Horrible night sleep.

    Owner Response
    Dear sandra2ra,

Thank you for sharing your thoughts with me. Although your getaway had some memorable perks, I sincerely apologize for maintenance inconvenience. By no means is that an acceptable time to attend to guest room issues. Sleep is an important part of any relaxing getaway and I completely understand the difficulty to put your children back to bed after an interruption. From the bottom of my heart, I apologize for this experience and hope to make things up to you one day.

    Sincerely,

    Harold Rapoza Jr.
