  • Old historic hotel

Fascinating history in the public lobby. There is a dining room, fancy bar and The Diamond Belle Saloon which we chose for dinner. Waitresses dressed in western saloon attire, live piano player, fun place. Pre prohibition drinks-a Bees Knees and an Orange Whip both tasty. Old fashioned chicken pot pie was good. Husband had French onion soup and a bacon wedge salad. Very good also.

  • Wonderful Historic Hotel

by frenchyphile on 2019-07-12 07:32 am

This is a wonderful historic Victorian hotel, straight out of a western novel in appearance. Truly remarkable and overall wonderful experience. We used the restaurant for breakfast and dinner the first night and had drinks at the Saloon. We stayed during over 4th of July and the only downside was they were having problems with their elevator which was out of service for most of our stay. Being on the 4th floor and having Rheumatoid Arthritis, this was a big(and painful) problem for me. I had read another reviewer had mentioned this was a problem on their stay as well on a different date. My suggestion would be to request a room on the 2nd floor to afford you fewer stairs should the elevator have problems again, if like me you have a condition that makes this an issue. I understand this is an old building and it is all about the experience, which is totally worth it, but better to be forewarned.

We very much apologize for the inconvenience of our elevator. We are working very hard to get these issues resolved. We always try and want to accommodate our guests and wish we could have gotten you closer to the first floor. We are happy to hear you enjoyed our hotel and thank you for the great rating.

  • Historic Hotel

This is a one of a kind hotel and if you appreciate history, western books or the west in general, you'll love this Victorian look of the old west. Super comfortable, friendly & efficient staff and the house-keeping staff went out of there way to keep everything like the first day we arrived. Plenty of pillows, fluffy bed & a really nice white noise machine that I truly appreciated. Also, not mentioned on the amenities, they DO have a hair dryer... it was in a bedroom drawer. There was not a safe in our room. It's about 3 blocks from a grocery store if you want to pick up some snacks that do not need refrigeration. It's in a perfect location to walk to just about everywhere in the historic section. Rivertrippers Tours is 1/2 block away (awesome tours!.. we did 2 with them).

  • Beautiful Historic Hotel

    by Teresa F on 2019-07-07 05:21 am

We stayed at the Strater for 5 days, for our 20th Anniversary. We had room 422, one of their premier rooms. It was spacious and beautiful. The bathroom doesn't have a lot of counter space, but the window sill is tiled and solved that issue. Everything about the Strater is gorgeous, the detailed woodwork, and wallpapered ceilings, stained glass and antiques everywhere. The beauty is only superseded by the friendly and courteous staff! The two bars, and restaurant are fabulous! We ate in all 3 several times, and the food is all wonderful, and well presented. We found it on the Historic Hotels website, because we love historic places, and this was dream come true. A truly fabulous stay!

We stayed at the Strater the start of staying in the Historic Hotels in America It is a nice hotel and the staff is friendly and helpful. We rode the narrow gauge from Silverton CO to Durango.CO. Had dinner in their Mahogany Grill and it was also very good.
