Britannia Hotel Listed as Protected by The Directorate for Cultural Heritage

Today is a historic day for Trondheim and Norway, when the Britannia Hotel is listed. This hotel has been a place for countless important moments, both for the city and for all of Norway, for 150 years. People have come here for big events and memorable moments for generations. Britannia is more than just a building – it is also a symbol of when tourism really started to take off in Trondheim. At the same time, old buildings are an invaluable resource for the future. This is a living house, and the best thing we can do to take care of it is to use it, says Minister of Climate and Environment Andreas Bjelland Eriksen (Labour Party).

The Norwegian Agency for Cultural Heritage is protecting the Hotel Britannia in Trondheim. It is the first time a hotel in this region has been protected, and the fourth hotel in Norway to be protected.

The Britannia Hotel has been in continuous operation since the 1870s and is one of Norway's oldest hotels. The grand brick building in central Trondheim was completed for the city's 900th anniversary in 1897.
