Rising from the gentle countryside of County Kildare, Kilkea Castle is a place where Ireland’s layered past meets a refined, contemporary sense of escape. With a history which dates to 1180, it is one oldest inhabited castles in Ireland. Nearly a century later, and it has transformed from a formidable stronghold, to the principal residence of the Fitzgeralds, to finally its current iteration as a luxury castle hotel. Its present-day splendour is largely thanks to Jay Cashman and his wife, Christy, who purchased Kilkea Castle in 2012 and led a $35 million renovation and restoration.
