• Look up to see a grand presentation of ornate sculptural reliefs, blooming flower boxes, and the family crest that decorate the Beaux-Arts style façade of the Hotel Monteleone, built in 1886.

• Gaze at the famed grandfather clock that still chimes on the hour in the Hotel Monteleone lobby. This beautiful work of art was hand-carved by an employee in the hotel’s furniture shop nearly 115 years ago.

• Discover the Friends of Libraries plaque, which celebrates the hotel’s rich literary history and distinction as a National Literary Landmark, as it is one of three hotels in the country to hold this honor. Southern literary greats such as Tennessee Williams, William Faulkner, and Truman Capote were frequent visitors to the hotel and it is mentioned in many literary classics. Discover the circus animals on the Carousel Bar & Lounge’s 25 hand-painted seats that complete a revolution every 15 minutes, as well as the bar’s spectacular carousel top. Built in 1949, this is the city’s only revolving bar. Step just outside of the hotel and walk over to Royal Street to explore some of New Orleans’ most famous antique shops and art galleries, as it has been named the “World’s Best Street for Antiquing.”
