In 1902, local industrialist Joseph Stickney built the Mount Washington Hotel, a Renaissance Revival-style hotel with a distinctive white façade, red roof, and grand colonnaded veranda. The grand hotel stood at the base of Mount Washington, the highest peak in the Northeast. An immediate success among the privileged class, it was the most luxurious hotel of its day. More than 250 master craftsmen, skilled in masonry and woodworking, were brought over from Italy during the two-year construction.   • Discover the intricacies of the Omni Mount Washington’s Renaissance Revival-style building, constructed between 1900 and 1902. Architect Charles Alling Gifford brought in some 250 Italian artisans to raise the Y-shaped structure by working on its exterior granite and stucco masonry. A steel-frame structure, an electrical power plant, sophisticated internal heating system, and nearly 5,000 electric lights completed the monumental interior. Contemporary guests can still see the original intricate plasterwork, crystal chandeliers, and Tiffany stained-glass accents that adorn the lofty Great Hall and Main Dining Room. The deliberately rustic brickwork in The Cave and the Conservatory complements the majestic geography of Mount Washington.
  • Witness where the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the International Monetary Fund were established during the Bretton Woods Conference in 1944. Allied Powers gathered at the New Hampshire resort to lay the foundations for the World Bank through the signing of the Bretton Woods Agreement in the hotel’s Gold Room.

Site of the 1944 Bretton Woods International Monetary Conference, and host to dozens of political, business and artistic gatherings, the historic Omni Mount Washington in Bretton Woods, New Hampshire, is set to truly redefine itself as a leading location for meeting and convention groups. In January 2009, Mount Washington opened the Presidential Wing, one of the largest meeting spaces in Northern New Hampshire, with a total of 30,000 sq. ft. of meeting space.
