The Mayflower is the largest luxury hotel in the District of Columbia and the longest continuously operating hotel in the Washington area, and its lower façade features Indiana limestone, whereas the upper floors feature rusticated brick with terracotta trim.

The Mayflower served as Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s retreat while he worked on his 1933 inaugural address, Harry Truman lived at The Mayflower for the first 90 days of his presidential term, and FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover lunched at The Mayflower nearly every day that he was in town. Celebrities, royalty, and dignitaries from around the world have been guests of this prestigious landmark hotel.

- Tour Oatlands Historic House and Gardens in Leesburg, Virginia, located between Washington and Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley. Once part of the extensive Carter family plantation holdings, the new Reclaim Your Story exhibit tells stories of African American history at Oatlands.

Edgar Hoover dined at the Mayflower every day. The Mayflower Hotel has been making banana bread since the 1950s and uses more than 20,000 bananas each year to bake over 10,000 loaves. The Mayflower banana bread has been used as a turndown amenity and even as a dessert at many weddings held in the hotel.
