  • Not the level we were expecting

    by GailG701 on 2019-09-19 04:57 pm

Bit of a mixed bag for us. Firstly, no one shows you to your room. Bearing in mind rooms are spread out - you're just given a map. We weren't happy with our first room so my husband had to go back to reception and organise an alternative. He was sent back to our room to wait while they got the alternative ready but we couldn't mess the room up - ie no water, bathroom, sit on bed etc. We'd had a long drive so I wanted to do all these things. 10 minute wait turned into half hour so we decided to go back to reception and wait. New room allocated immediately- again a map. Then wait for bags.... the second room was much better but personally I think their rooms are way over priced compared to hotels we've stayed in so make sure you've got a good deal.

There was one sun bed on the patio which I thought was odd, so requested another one, which they did provide after thinking which room they could take it from.

TV channels are limited but WiFi was good.

There were 2 ice machines - neither of which worked for our entire 4 day stay despite our having to go to the bar every day for ice.

Rooms were cleaned early and well each day, but replenishment was not consistent, for example, on our last morning we had to have black coffee with no sugar as we weren't left any the previous day.

Our bed was very comfortable and the air con and fan worked well. Lovely bathroom. USB ports and empty fridge. Two sinks, indoor and outdoor shower.

The resort looked pretty, and I thought it would look really lovely come nighttime - but no one turns the outside lights on. It's certainly not like the photos on the website.

If you want to sit outside at the restaurant good luck at reading the menu or seeing your food. We had a similar problem actually in the Grill and I realised the bulb above us had blown. When we pointed out how dark it was they turned on some outside lights, so they obviously work!

There's a turn down service which came at 5.30pm - when we were getting ready to go out, so quite early. On one occasion we were still in the room and turned them away, they gave us chocolates. The 2 times they provided turn down, no chocolates. Oh, and on the Saturday my husband said ' no thanks but we'll have chocolates ?' they said ' no chocolates on Saturday '.

We had some excellent service in the restaurants (Ian and Preston) but some not so great.

Tapas is very nice. The Grill restaurant - my husband was unimpressed by his New York which was over cooked but my Filet was good. I was able to swap the sides. But our table was in darkness! Pictures of our steaks in darkness provided.

There's no service at the pools unless you phone them, though you can help yourself to water. There is a full bar though so I don't know when this is open? You can help yourself to towels.

The highlight of our stay was the sunset ride with Kirk. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Kirk was very knowledgeable and gave a running commentary which was great. However, there are no lights or signs directing you back to the hotel and it is DARK! We ended up on private property with only a phone for light! Very poor of the hotel who sell this event and it took the shine off the ride.

This is by far the longest review I've given during our road trip as I think, for the prices this hotel are charging, there are a lot of things missing - mostly down to management. Thank goodness we didn't pay full price.

My husband planned this is a luxury 4 day break during our month long road trip and sadly it didn't live up to the anticipation. We're now at a 'lower' grade hotel in San Diego and it's fabulous. Disappointing.

  • Nice resort

by pmny on 2019-09-17 07:52 am

Very nice and quiet. The hotel is a converted girls school. The older buildings have restaurants, guest check in, library, spa and some rooms. There is a newer section of rooms that were added to the hotel several years ago. I recommend staying in the new section. We stayed one night in a older suite and while it was warm, cozy and had character it needed some updating and offered no views. We were switched to a newer suite upon request the next day. We were so glad we made the change. The restaurants were nice. There are two pools that are very nice. The new pool has a bar but no bar tenders you have to call the main bar for food or drinks. Don't understand this policy????? My only criticism would be better bar/food service while at the pool.
Besides that the place is nice and quiet.

  • Anniversary Staycation

    by Linda B on 2019-09-15 01:58 pm

My husband and I recently celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary with an overnight stay. From the moment we checked in, all the staff we met went out of their way to help make our stay special. The only negative is we had a drink in the bar before heading off site to dinner and we didn't find the bartender/wait staff very friendly.

The resort upgraded us to an incredible room with a spectacular view of the Catalina's. It was perfect for relaxing and watching the sunset and having our coffee outside in the morning.

Breakfast was delicious and our waitress was very good. Walking around the property, you realize how many cool sculptures/artwork they have put in to make the whole experience great.

Although we went offsite that night for dinner, we have eaten lunch/dinner recently at the resort and have enjoyed the drinks/food.

  • Best. Massage. Ever.

    by Lauren H on 2019-09-14 02:31 pm

This is a beautiful place to stay for a weekend of relaxation! I had the best massage of my life from Ida. I have been to many resorts/spas in the Phoenix area but the massages I've had have never even been half as good as the Swedish massage from IDA!!!! Life changing. Cannot recommend enough.

  • Grew up in Tucson, this is the place to stay!

Just wows all around. Loved the property, great service, impeccable amenities. I loved everything about this experience and would return in a heartbeat. The linens were so comfortable, the room had so much character, the employees were attentive to all of our needs.
