• Tour the ruins at Nora, an ancient pre-Roman and Roman town on a peninsula near Pula. Nora was an important trading town in its time, with two protected harbors, one on each side of the peninsula.

• Visit Cagliari’s district Castello, the walled citadel constructed by the Pisans to defend against the Saracen raids. Gaze out onto the city and the sea from the Torre dell'Elefante watchtower, a 13th-century tower still guarding the medieval city walls.

• Take a day trip to Mamoiada, a small town in the Nuoro region of Sardinia and home of mamuthones and issohadores, mysterious masked characters whose origin is all but unknown. The Mamoiada Mask Museum houses these distinctive wooden masks.
