Warsaw Old Town
Warsaw's historic Old Town is a must-visit attraction featured on the UNESCO World Heritage List. With a history dating back to the 13th century, this area was razed to the ground during World War II. Since the war, the Old Town has been re-built from scratch and is an outstanding example of historic reconstruction. Sights include the Royal Castle and the 22-meter-tall King Zygmunt column, erected in the 17th century. The highest monument in the city, it towers over the square, honoring King Zygmunt III Waza, who moved the capital from Kraków to Warsaw in 1596.
Warsaw Uprising Museum
The Warsaw Uprising Museum, located in the Wola district, is a prime destination in the city, and one of the most visited museums in Warsaw. Dedicated to the Warsaw Uprising of 1944, this museum pays homage to those who fought and died for a free Poland. Exhibitions showcase the struggle and daily lives of insurgents under German occupation as well as the story of post-war communism.
Palace of Culture and Science
One of the city's examples of socialist-realist architecture, this recognizable building can be seen from almost any part of the city and was erected as a "gift from the Soviet people" in 1952. With over 3,000 rooms, building currently houses an exhibition center, four theaters, two museums, bookshops, and offices. The terrace on the 30th floor of the building allows visitors a fantastic panoramic view of Warsaw.
The Royal Łazienki
The summer residence of Poland's last king, King Stanislaw, is one of the most attractive palace and park complexes in Europe, occupying over 76 hectares of the city center. These beautiful grounds are made up of four different gardens: the Royal Garden, the Romantic Garden, the Modernist Garden, and the newly added Chinese Garden. Make sure to visit the Palace on the Isle, one of Poland's most valuable historic buildings. Today the palace serves as a museum housing the royal collection of paintings.
