• Explore Taneytown Historic District nearby. The settlement’s beginnings date back to 1754 when it was founded on a 7,900-acre tract of land. By the end of the century, Taneytown was a bustling community that supported craftsmen of various trades. The most famous native son of the region is undoubtedly lawyer, poet, and author of the “Star Spangled Banner," Francis Scott Key.

• Visit the Eisenhower National Historic Site. A U.S. National Historic Landmark, this oustanding location served as the home for the Dwight D. Eisenhower after his second presidential term ended in 1961.

• Travel to Gettysburg National Military Park. Located just across the border in neighboring Pennsylvania, this world-renowned historic destinaiton was the site of one of the most pivtol battles fought during the American Civil War. A resoudning Union victory, the Battle of Gettysburg ocurred from July 1 to 3, 1863.
