• Discover the great historical heritage of the Hotel Captain Cook. Debuting in 1964, this amazing historic hotel was named for Captain James Cook. Cook was an 18th-century British explorer who mapped Alaska’s coastline for the first time.

• Admire historic accommodations of the Hotel Captain Cook. They were originally built by Walter J. Hickel, who served as the Governor of Alaska twice from 1966 to 1969 and 1990 to 1994.

• Stroll through downtown Anchorage and learn the history of the Anchortown. Much of the downtown was rebuilt after the devastating Good Friday Earthquake of 1964, but some original buildings, such as the Historic City Hall, still remain.
