Join in the culinary tradition started by Kari Straand at the hotel's beginning and carried on at Straand Hotel today.

Offering flavorful, homespun fare has been part of the Straand Hotel’s warm and welcoming hospitality since it was a humble boarding house. Today, the hotel carries on the time-honored tradition that Kari Straand started those many years ago, serving a delicious mix of local, traditional Norwegian favorites and more international tastes. In the morning, guests can fuel up for the day’s adventures with a complimentary breakfast.

From the afternoon through early evening, various light lunch dishes are served in the piano bar or on the rooftop terrace. Alternatively, to add a touch of elegance to the day, guests can indulge in an afternoon tea in the hotel’s circa-1864 living rooms or, during the warmer months, the on-site apple orchard, with classic accompaniments such as finger sandwiches, freshly baked scones, and other sweet treats. Finally, finish the day with a three-course meal or dinner buffet crafted out of the bounty of Upper Telemark. (During the low season, only one dinner option might be offered in the event of low occupancy.) Or, for an authentic taste of Norway, reserve a seat for the Spekeaften. Meaning “speaking night” in English, this regional feast features a selection of cured meats and other delicacies from the area, all made with Norwegian ingredients.

Please note that while breakfast is included with every hotel stay, all other dining is at an additional cost. Be sure to let the hotel staff know about desired mealtimes so that appropriate preparations can be made.
