Discover Hotel Ullensvang, which originally began as a modest boathouse built by Hans Utnes in 1846.

Hotel Ullensvang was constructed during the historic reign of the United Kingdom’s famed Queen Victoria, who sat on the British throne from 1837 to 1901.

Hotel Ullensvang began as a modest boathouse built by Hans Utne in 1846. This “staging inn” was developed on a small piece of coastline that Hans had recently purchased due to his inspiration from rowing across the nearby fjord when he was 14. The lodge consisted of Utne’s own straw bed lofted over a shipping office. By the next year, he added another bed and from there the foundation for Hotel Ullensvang was laid. Hans soon married Brita, the who was the daughter of politician Johannes Johannessen Aga. Hotel Ullensvang expanded and renovations were made throughout over the years, which transformed it into the first-class holiday destination that it is now. Today, the fifth generation of Utne’s family—(Barbara Zanoni and Hans Edmund)–continue his legacy by continuously focusing on providing the best personal service.
