Indulge in classic and contemporary Norwegian cuisine while drinking in fjord views at Hotel Union Geiranger's dining venues.

Whether hiking, kayaking, or seeing the sights during a boat tour or from one of the scenic overlooks, exploring the Geirangerfjord can work up quite an appetite. Fortunately, guests at Hotel Union Geiranger have no shortage of options for mealtime, with a variety of dining venues on offer, from the hotel’s long-running buffet restaurant and a seasonal à la carte eatery to a poolside café or lounge offering takeaway pizza. Additionally, as hotel waiters are specially educated in wine, meals can also be paired with a glass of something delicious from Hotel Union Geiranger’s wine cellar. Guests looking to indulge in more than just a mealtime tipple can also unwind at one of the hotel’s three onsite bars. Certain outlets are only open seasonally, so speak to the reception staff for current availability.

Restaurant Fjorden

Open since 1970, Restaurant Fjorden is the hotel’s popular buffet venue. Here, hungry diners can greet the morning with a hearty breakfast or fuel up during the day following the day’s adventures. An expansive selection of both cold and hot dishes is available, like salads, shellfish, cured meats, and home-baked bread on the cold buffet and various meat and fish options on the hot buffet. And be sure to save some room for dessert—the hotel’s pâtissier bakes up an assortment of decadent treats to round out the meal. Depending on the time of year, guests may even enjoy one of the restaurant’s themed weekend buffets, such as seafood, Italian, and food and wine pairings. One of the most popular is the festive buffet that takes over the restaurant on the weekends leading up to Christmas during November and December, featuring traditional Norwegian holiday dishes and newer favorites.

Restaurant Julie

Named for Julie Mjelva, from the first generation of Mjelvas to operate the hotel, Restaurant Julie offers an à la carte brasserie menu for lunch and dinner. This culinary tribute to one of Hotel Union Geiranger’s original caretakers serves beautifully plated dishes crafted with the finest ingredients available, many of which are locally sourced, with options that change with the seasons. Sweeping views of the Geirangerfjord are the perfect accompaniment to the experience.

Café Løsta

Located on the third floor next to the pool and Union Spa, Café Løsta serves up a small assortment of light bites like wraps, salads, and a plate of local cheeses and charcuterie, as well as a selection of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages like locally brewed beer, cider, and apple juice, tea, coffee, and wine. During the summer months, lunch can be enjoyed in the hotel’s garden, which overlooks the Geirangerfjord.

The Lobby Bar

With its plush seating and panoramic fjord views, the lobby lounge makes for a comfortable place to unwind, whether over a morning cup of coffee or during a pre- or post-dinner drink. The lounge opens up early for those in search of their daily caffeine fix, offering a selection of coffee drinks. Pizza is also available, either to enjoy at the bar or as takeaway, as is a small selection of snacks like peanuts, chips, and a spread of local cured meats and cheeses. Guests looking for something stronger can order something from the lounge’s sprawling bar menu, which offers everything from locally brewed beers and ciders to an impressive array of cocktails. Be sure to try the signature drink, the Eagle’s Bend, which features apple juice inspired by the apple trees passed along the way to the popular scenic overlook, combined with gin, raspberry syrup, egg white, and lemon.

Vognfabrikken

Hotel Union’s themed bar, Vognafabrikken takes inspiration from the hotel’s vintage car collection. Perfect for nostalgia seekers, gearheads, and live music lovers alike, the bar also features concerts by local and visiting musicians. Live music is typically only offered on Saturday evenings, as well as Thursdays during the summer months.

Studiebakeren

Studiebakeren is Hotel Union’s downstairs nightclub and another live music venue. Here, guests can dance the night away on select evenings or enjoy a concert by a visiting musician.
