Historic property -- a gem in southern PA

Recently spent three days at the Omni Bedford Springs. This is an old, historic hotel dating back to the early 1800s, with original buildings. The food was excellent although we didn't dine in the restaurants, instead picking up food to go and eating in the large lobby or on the front porch of the hotel. Everyone wore masks and it was kinda weird to visit during a pandemic. The golf course is excellent, according to my hubby who is an advanced golfer. The spa was operating at 50% capacity and we couldn't get an appointment, so that was a downer. The walking trail in the foothills across from the hotel were wonderful, especially during this autumn season. The indoor mineral pool, the oldest in the country, is gorgeous. This place was the summer White House for President Buchanan and many presidents have visited. I had no idea this property existed -- it was a nice discovery.

    Not worth the money

Maybe we're just not fancy enough for this place. We stayed for three nights arriving right at 4:00 check-in time and still had to wait half an hr to get our key cards. This entailed a 2nd time waiting in line. Front desk was polite but not friendly. Housekeeping never made it around each day until close to 4:00 so if you want another cup of coffee earlier than this, go pay $5 at the tavern downstairs. We actually brought our espresso maker which was a lifesaver. Teeny tiny fridge for our wine and no microwave. I agree with another reviewer, the place looks worn, outside porch area of room could use a cleaning. Many bugs, needed painted. Many areas actually noted as needing painted, lampshades needing replaced. Walls are very thin, we felt we could hear every door close, every person talking and walking. Don't get me started on the trails. We liked them but the map was worthless. Wear good ankle support shoes. I believe here you are paying for the history of the property, not much else. Room did seem clean but we could have used more than one bottle of water per day which was actually for the Keurig. No vending type machines, only ice machines. Spa overbooked and unavailable. There was a wedding Saturday night so music was very very loud and we were down by the fire pit, not even near the area by the wedding tent. Music ended about 11:00. I'll take my Holiday Inn anytime. Recommendation for eating out of town, Jean Bonnet Tavern @ 15 minute drive. We enjoyed ourselves without breaking the bank, good food and drinks! Spent time in Bedford milling through the shops which was interesting. We did eat in the Tavern downstairs and food was ok - charcuterie board recommended; married to a chef so he may be biased. Service was very very good there. Historic tours cancelled due to Covid; I would have loved watching a documentary on the place. I'm sure the history is a fascinating story. We did read a lot of the picture captions found all over the property which was interesting. We found no issues with masks or social distancing; everyone seemed to be very respectful of the guidelines. One last thought, $200 per night is held on your card for incidentals which will eventually drop off. So for us, $600 was locked up. Not an issue, just surprising. Best part of trip, the view. The trees were truly beautiful with all the changing colors. Suggestions to the property, morning pastries would be nice. We are big time coffee drinkers in the morning and would have loved to grab a pastry to partner with our cup of coffee as we sat outside in our rocking chairs.

The title sums up our first (and last) trip to the Omni Bedford Springs resort; it was old, dirty, and expensive.

Shocked to see that Covid-19 precautions were not being followed by all guests and staff members.

Rooms were dirty, furniture was scuffed and scratched, dead flies and spiders on the window ledges in the room. The tv looked like it was from 2003, without SmartTV capabilities.

General lack of cleanliness and maintenance around the common areas; elevators were dirty, an old glass of wine was left on a table near the elevators when we checked in and was still there the following morning when we checked out (early).

Food is awful; poached eggs arrived with yolks broken and in a pool of water. The grounds crew decided to trim the hedges during breakfast...

We felt so uncomfortable that we chose to check out early, less than 24 hours after arriving.

Unfortunately not the relaxing trip away we'd greatly anticipated, won't be returning or recommending.

Had a great long weekend. Accommodations were clean and the staff was very nice. Valets were very helpful. Food at each restaurant was awesome and although pricey, you received a lot of food. Trail hiking was awesome and the indoor pool was refreshing.

We are here now...it's not well maintained. We have spiderwebs in our room with spiders in them. The bed has scuff marks all over it. The pool looks like there is black mold growing in it and our porch is not maintained well at all.

We paid for the breakfast package...which is $116 extra per day...the packaged states we would be in the crystal room with a breakfast buffet... but they closed that and had us in some weird tavern where the breakfast was gross and only $34...for two of us.

We came to relax and get out of the city and now I'm longing to be back.
